The University of Miami's Christian Blöcker (Hamburg, Germany) and David Simon (Vienna, Austria) are among 21 student-athletes named to the Men's Tennis All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team, announced today by ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford.
It marks the second-straight ACC academic honors for Blöcker, who was also named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District III First Team this spring, and the first conference honors for Simon. The Hurricanes have had at least one Men's Tennis All-ACC Academic Team honoree every season since the inaugural squad was selected five years ago.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and have maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career. This year's team includes 13 repeat honorees.
Blöcker, who has a double major in accounting and finance, owns a 3.91 GPA. Playing predominantly out of the No. 1 and 2 positions for the Hurricanes this season, the rising senior went 17-13 in singles play at No. 1 and No. 2 - knocking off a pair of ranked opponents, while adding a 17-12 mark in doubles competition. He was ranked as high as No. 100 in the country in singles and No. 60 in doubles play with Simon.
