Bishop O’Dowd High School’s Brandon Ashley ’12 is among 19 of the nation’s top high school players selected to participate in the 2010 USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team’s training camp, scheduled for June 18-24 at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The USA training camp will be utilized to select the 12-member 2010 USA U17 World Championship Team and the four players who will represent the U.S. in the 3-on-3 basketball competition at the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

“Brandon is one of those players who will add a lot to our training camp. He’s an aggressive and physical player who possesses a lot of skills.  He can post up and face the basket which you look for in international basketball,” said Don Showalter, 2009-10 USA Developmental National Team and Mid-Prairie High School (Iowa) head coach, who led the USA to gold at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship last June and who will lead the 2010 USA U17 World Championship Team.

Player selections for the USA U17 and USA Youth Olympic Games teams will be made by the USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team Committee.

Chaired by USA Basketball Men’s National Teams Director Sean Ford, the committee features five voting members: Ron Crawford, head of the Arkansas Wings AAU program and Boo Williams, head of the Boo Williams Summer League (Va.) were appointed by the AAU; Eric Flannery, head coach at St. Edwards High School (Ohio) and John Olive, head coach at Torrey Pines High School (Calif.) were appointed by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS); while 1999 USA Pan American Games Team member Kermit Holmes serves as the athlete representative.
