Former Pitt baseball standout Peter Parise has helped lead his AAA Memphis Redbirds team to the Triple-A Baseball National Championship game, to be played Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. on ESPN2. Memphis will face the Durham Bulls in the nationally-televised game.
Parise serves as a right-handed closer for the Redbirds, and has totaled four saves throughout the playoffs. During his time at Pitt, Parise was known for his appearances at the plate as he finished his career as Pitt's all-time leader in hits (253), at bats (827), games played (208) and games started (208). In addition, he also finished in the top 10 in career doubles, triples, RBI, total bases, strikeouts, runs scored and saves.
Parise's four saves in the postseason is already a franchise record for Memphis. At one point during the playoffs, Parise had retired 12 of his 13 batters faced. His efforts helped lead the Redbirds to a Pacific Coast League title, defeating the Sacramento River Cats.
