DescriptionAUBURN - Incoming freshman David "DJ" Smith won a silver medal in the men's high jump and rising sophomore Maya Pressley just missed making the finals of the women's high jump as the pair competed at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada. Smith soared to the silver medal in the men's competition by clearing a personal best of 2.24 meters (7-4.25). Smith, whose previous best was a jump of 7-4, was perfect through the first four bars, including a jump of 2.21 meters (7-3) that left him as one of just five competitors remaining, including one of just two who had not yet missed. After clearing 2.24 meters on his second attempt, Smith bowed out at 2.26 meters (7-5), while Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar went on to win the competition by clearing 2.30 meters (7-6.5). In the women's competition, Pressley cleared 1.78 meters (5-10) in the qualifying round, which equaled the height of the last two qualifiers to reach the finals. Unfortunately for Pressley, she missed once at 1.78m, while the other two were perfect through that bar, giving the final two spots to the other two athletes. Pressley tied for 14th overall. Details
