Dave joined Kiwanis in 1981 when he was invited to join the Greenfield, Massachusetts, Kiwanis Club. He became immediately active in Kiwanis, serving as a member of the club's Board of Directors or as a club officer every year following that first year. David served as Lieutenant Governor of the Tri-State Division three times, and is a Life Member of the New Englad District's Past Lieutenant Governors' Association. He chaired the New England District's Membership Education and Leadership Development Committee for two governors. During 1992, the clubs of his division presented Dave with a Life Membership in Kiwanis and the Greenfield Kiwanis Club made him a Hixson Fellow at their 70th anniversary celebration.

Dave and his wife, Kathryn, moved to Sand Lake, NY, in 1993 when her position with the Phoenix Home Life Insurance Company was relocated to the Albany area. In the fall of that year, Dave joined the Sand Lake Kiwanis Club and became immediately active, serving every year as either a member of the club's Board of Directors or as an officer. The year he was president of the Sand Lake Club and for four of the six years he was secretary, the club earned Distinguished Club status. Dave helped built the North Greenbush Kiwanis Club in 2007 and became a "seed member" of the club. Following that, he chose to join the North Greenbush club as a regular member.
