Description

The Poulter Camp tradition began in 1966 as the Bear Pole Ranch Camp in Strawberry Park, just outside of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Glen and Rusty Poulter started the residential camp, for children ages 7-17. Their focus was on giving campers on opportunity for healthy development in an outdoor setting. In 1985 Jay Poulter, Glen and Rusty’s youngest son, became the business manager for the camp, soon after; he began working as an assistant director. After the summer of 1988, Glen and Rusty decided to retire and sold the Bear Pole Ranch.

In 1990 Jay partnered with the Whiteman School, and created Poulter Colorado Camps. In the summer of 2001, Poulter found its new home at the base of 11,000-foot Hahn’s Peak in the refurbished historical cabins of Columbine. In the fall of 2004 Jay hired long time Poulter Alumnus, Andrew Stoller, to work as a director and help continue the Poulter tradition.

In the fall of 2005, after 20 years of working as a director for Bear Pole Ranch Camp, and Poulter Camps, Jay decided it was time for a change. He approached Andrew, and asked if he had interest in buying Poulter Camps along with his two longtime Poulter friends, Amy Rosenblum and Bert Roulette. They jumped at the opportunity to continue the legacy that meant so much to the development of their collective lives.

Poulter Camps is proud to be celebrating its 40th anniversary in the camping industry. During this time, thousands of children from all over the United States and worldwide have grown from their Poulter experience. Although the name, directors and location have made some changes, Poulter Camps still follows the same ideals that Glen and Rusty Poulter started in 1966. We are excited to continue the program, and to ensure that its traditions remain for generations to come.
