Our journey together as Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas serving 21 counties has begun -- and is going well!

The "Name the Council" Task Group representing all constituencies in the new council met on March 24, 2007, and after thoughtful discussion unanimously selected one name, GIRL SCOUTS OF SOUTHWEST TEXAS. Approval was received from Girl Scouts of the USA March 27, 2007. The new name was then ratified by the delegate body at the Annual Meeting of Girl Scouts of the San Antonio Area on May 5, 2007. In addition, amendments to the corporation’s Articles of Incorporation were approved reflecting the name change and the 21-county jurisdiction. On July 11, 2007 the Articles of Incorporation were restated and filed with the state of Texas.

Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls -- all girls -- where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.



Founder Juliette Gordon Low organized the first group of Girl Scouts on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia. Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas was issued a charter by GSUSA on March 11,1924. GSSWT serves 21 counties in its jurisdiction: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gonzalez, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, Maverick, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson, and Zavala. The Sally Cheever Girl Scout Leadership Center, located at 811 N Coker Loop, also has a Girl Scout Shop and Resource Center.
