DescriptionAt Camp Shomria the basic grouping is the kvutzah (group). Based on a chanich's (camper) age, the kvutzah is comprised of two cabins, one girls' cabin, and one boys'. It is with his/her kvutzah that your child will spend the majority of their time. The youngest kvutzah on the Mosh (camp) are the Chalutzim Ktanim (little pioneers), a.k.a. the Preemies (which stands for Pre-Mosh). In grade 2 or 3 these campers only come up for one week in August in order to get a taste of what camp is like. All older campers stay for the full session times (see Important Dates in "Mosh Kayitz") The next grouping is the chalutzim (pioneers, a.k.a. lower machaneh), comprised of three kvutzot, chalutzim aleph (grade 3-4), chalutzim bet (grade 5), and chalutzim gimmel (grade 6). Following them, we have the Tzofim Tzeirim (little scouts, a.k.a. upper machaneh), in three kvutzot: tzofim tzeirim aleph (grade 7), tzofim tzeirim bet (grade 8), and tzofim tzeirim gimmel (grade 9). These campers, being older, are given even more responsibility in order to help them learn to be strong individuals. It is also at this age that hadracha (counselor) training begins. The final group of chanichim are Tzofei Amal a.k.a. Yedid (grade 10). These campers are enrolled in what most would call a CIT (Counselor In Training program), however it is much more. For the year leading up to this summer Yedidniks participate in several seminars to help prepare them for their future as madrichim. They spend the first part of the summer at camp learning and apply new counselor techniques, as well as solidifying their knowledge of the movement, Israel, and social justice issues. After this the Yedidniks meet up with their counterparts from our sister camp in Liberty, N.Y. and go to Israel (and sometimes Europe) for several weeks of touring and learning. Particular care is taken, as always, to ensure the well-being and safety of the participants. For more information and details about this program please contact our office. Finally, the Hadracha (counselors) are the last kvutzah on the mosh. Comprised of former campers and working in a democratic manner, the hadracha elects the head counselor and heads of programming. The head counselor works alongside the camp's Educational Director (shaliach/shlicha) and the site manager to make the summer run as smoothly as possible. Details
