DescriptionCamp Hurontario's spectacular location in the Thirty Thousand Islands of Georgian Bay (only two hours from Toronto) offers the ideal setting for a wide range of outdoor summer activities. Our philosophy is designed around growth and development, so that there is always a new and appropriate challenge at each age level. Hurontario's tripping program, for instance, introduces novice campers to the experience through short three to five day trips within the nearby Massassauga Provincial Park. Our more experienced boys embark on successively longer trips that take them further a field, such as our northern outpost in the Chapleau Game Preserve (near Lake Superior), and white water adventures in the Canadian Arctic. The main island houses all of the buildings and land-based activities, such as rock climbing, ropes and range shooting. The protected waters around the camp islands are ideal for swimming, kayaking and windsurfing, and the bigger winds of Twelve Mile Bay are great for sailing. In addition to the camp owned property, Hurontario is situated close to some of the islands of the Georgian Bay Islands National Park, which further enhance our fishing, biology and arts programs. Camp Hurontario's unique philosophy sees our groups (a counsellor, counsellor-in-training, and 6 to 8 campers) stay together all day long throughout the entire summer. Furthermore, our small groups and non-competitive atmosphere provides an opportunity for a more flexible approach to learning than that of a school setting. Through this flexibility, boys from all over the world are able to develop strong personal skills, great friendships and a wonderful sense of community. Campers are encouraged to provide input into the program, so that no day at Hurontario is ever the same. With this special philosophy, Hurontario is able to balance the development of personal and activity-based skills as our campers grow to be our future leaders. Spectacularly located on the islands of Georgian Bay since 1947, Camp Hurontario's unique small group philosophy and non-competitive atmosphere has long built self confidence, strong team skills and lasting friendships. Hurontario's outdoor program can be customized to suit all age groups and curriculum needs. Weeklong or weekend programs, start in May and continue until mid June and also run from late August until Thanksgiving, the spring and fall program can accommodate up to 70 students. Over 300 acres of islands and mainland properties provide a unique and extensive natural setting for outdoor activities. The camp's location is just a two-hour drive north of Toronto. Details
