Mrs. Eloise Hart Temple founded Camp Skyline in 1947 and owned it for 33 years. In 1980 she sold camp to Edward and Edmond Cash. Edmond sold his half of camp in 1997 and Sally Cash Johnson became part owner at that time. Eloise started many rich traditions that continue today. The Temple family maintains a close relationship with the Cash and Johnson families and Eloise's enthusiasm and legacy still prevail throughout the camp. When camp first began, campers arrived by train and stayed for two months. Eloise soon broke the summer into two sessions each being one month long. It wasn't until the 1980's that camp started the two week sessions.Eloise believed horseback riding was a must and it was a required activity on every camper's schedule! Now riding is a choice for our young ladies and the Equestrian Program has been added for our campers that love to be at the barn all day. Many of the activities that started in 1947 still remain including swimming, archery, riflery, tennis, arts and crafts, dance, canoeing, and drama.Night time has always been a fun and special time at Skyline. It was filled with competitions between the clubs, talent night, dance with the boys' camp, fun with cabin mates, and of course campfires. These evening traditions are still strong today and are among many favorites with our campers and staff.A Message for Our Girls Eloise penned this message for the girls. It remains as true today as ever: A good camp doesn't just happen. It is the result of careful planning and a great deal of effort by a director who is sincerely interested in your character and personality development as well as your physical welfare. Good counselors are selected for your benefit, and they play a most important part in making our camp a good one. Camp Skyline is my favorite place in the world! Good Sportsmanship helps you fit into our life at Skyline. Your entire life will be influenced by the place you make for yourself here at Skyline. Good camping is not cheap, neither is it expensive. But you can make it worth many times what it cost by taking advantage of the many opportunities available. We provide the right environment, the best leadership, and the inspiration, but what you take away from camp will depend on your attitude toward the program, the counselors, and the other campers. Lifelong friendships are formed at camp. Memories that will live with you always will be priceless possessions. We want you to have fun at camp, but we also want you to acquire many new skills and to learn to get along with everybody. When you come to Skyline, come prepared to be FRIENDLY to all. Come prepared to be CHEERFUL. Come prepared to be UNSELFISH.You will leave camp a finer girl, possessing more poise and loving others and God more than you ever have.
