Description

MEADOWCROFT DAY CAMP, established in 1936, is... people... a forest... a forest and people full of love and experiences to give each child a sense of being which allows them to say "I am, I exist, I accept me as a wonderful person totally in tune with myself, my environment, my universe... I am happy."

The Forest... is 26 acres of hardwood and pine groves, fields and trails, providing an encompassing habitat sensitized to the individual needs of children. This environment has been developed through many years of experience in administering summer day camps with a reputation for being a pioneer in establishing precedents for the standards of the American Camping Association in New England and the best camp on the South Shore.

The Program... is designed to emphasize individuality. Our core is the cabin; a small group of campers and counselors that share a space they call home…the specialty counselor provides the creative expertise. It is this combination that allows for a program that is alive, individual and totally unlimited. We generally schedule continuous 45-minute periods throughout the day, which allows each cabin exposure to all the specialists each week and two swimming lessons per day. Each cabin will also take a trip away from camp each week. We have many special days and events like storytellers, animal shows, magic, music and balloon artists. Friday is a theme day…like Disney Day…where we all come dressed as our favorite character. On rainy days we are off to roller skating, bowling, museums and zoos.

The Specialities... are SWIMMING * Red Cross certified program, lifesaving, beach trips and boat safety. ART * painting, drawing, pottery, weaving, batik and sculpture. DRAMA/VIDEO/FILMMAKING * working with film and video cameras, music and costumes to produce spectacular productions. CRAFTS * ceramics, gimp, beadwork, jewelry, leatherwork and papercrafts. MUSIC * orff instruments, singing, music games and our creative instruments and parades. GYMNASTICS/NEW GAMES * the bars, beams, horse and many new innovative pieces of equipment for exercise, movement and group fun.
