The Frank Shivers Evangelistic Association operated its first student camp in the summer of 1976. The success of these camps prompted a decision to investigate the possibility of acquiring a camp facility for this ministry.
On a cloudy December day in 1980 Board Members of this ministry toured a closed camp in Ridgeway, South Carolina seeking to ascertain God’s direction regarding its acquisition. The camp was desolate, in dire need of repair and upkeep. I never will forget how this group of men knelt upon the lake dock and cried out to God regarding His will concerning its purchase. The sun pierced through the clouds as we prayed but more than that the Son illumined our darkness revealing the green light to proceed with the camp’s purchase. Financially, from man’s standpoint the purchase price was an impossibility but by faith the Board proceeded trusting God to make provision which He did. The manner in that God provided which at times was the 11th hour to pay annual payments is a story in and of itself.
In June, 1981 the Frank Shivers Evangelistic Association officially offered its first summer camp program at CAMP LONGRIDGE. God has enabled this ministry to annually provide such camps continuously to the present date without exception. It is estimated that in excess of 20,000 students have entered the gates at Longridge to experience its ministry resulting in nearly 4000 professions of faith. Additionally, God has called out a number of students into full -time Christian work at Longridge.
Presently Longridge is pressing forward in the development of its Master Concept Plan drafted by Harrison and Associates and the Board of Directors. This plan may be viewed in detail on this website. Longridge is committed to ministry, “Making champions for Christ’ until He comes and the work is then done. The future is bright and exciting for Camp Longridge. Why not catch the vision of its possibilities and “Come over and help us.”
