Description

Directing this camp is Deering HS JV Head Coach and Varsity Asst coach Suzanne Parks. Coach Parks, a native of Brewer, Maine, has been involved in field hockey for years. She began playing field hockey for Brewer HS and then went on to play four years of collegiate field hockey at Bentley College. Suzanne has guided the Deering HS JV squad to an impressive record during the past two seasons, winning all but two games.

In the offseason, Suzanne coaches and manages Katahdin, an elite indoor travel club, which has produced two of the State's Junior Olympic team members. She is an umpire at the National Festival, the world's largest amateur field hockey event and she coaches in the USFHA Futures program. As the commissioner & organizer for the Maine Games she has led her team to three Gold Medal victories since the sports inaugural year in 2006.

Joining Suzanne will be Carolyn King, Assistant Coach for Bates College. Coach King, a native of Hanover, Massachusetts, was a four-year standout forward on the Hanover High School field hockey team. A three-time league all-star and one-time league leading scorer, King continued her field hockey career at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. Bates College is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference, arguably the most competitive DIII conference in the country. King was a three-year starting forward for the Bates Bobcats. While abroad in South Africa, King played on the University of Cape Town's second varsity team for a season. She has also traveled to the Netherlands to play competitively. King currently coaches in the USFHA Futures program at the Topsham, Maine site. She manages the U14 group at the site.

Our goalie coach for camp will be Sue Jordan who is in her third season as the goalkeeping coach at MIT

in Cambridge, Massachusetts (New England Men and Women's Conference, Division III). Prior to her arrival at MIT, she was the goalkeeper for the William Smith Herons in Geneva, New York. During her collegiate career, she received multiple Liberty League Conference awards, including Defensive Performer of the Week, and Goalkeeper of the Week. She was also a member of the NFHCA All-Academic team. She has competed with exhibition teams in Europe and the US, and has coached at several field hockey camps throughout the Northeast and the Midwest. In Sue's senior season (2005), the Herons made it to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. There, she was named to the All-Tournament team. Sue was also named to the 2005 Liberty League All-Academic team.  She hails from Boothbay, Maine.
