DescriptionCamp Tamarack sits nestled beneath the tall green trees of the Deschutes National Forest, on the shore of pristine Dark Lake. Lying between the Mount Jefferson and Mount Washington Wilderness areas at 3,750 feet in central Oregon's Cascades, Tamarack is 15 miles northwest of the quaint Old West town of Sisters, an hour from Bend or Redmond, and three hours southeast of Portland. Campers live in rustic, dormitory style cabins with double-deck bunks and heaters for those cool evenings. Each dorm becomes a "family" where everyone assists in keeping things tidy and shares a summer and perhaps a lifetime of friendship. There are wash houses with sinks and showers with hot and cold water and outdoor port-a-potties. Our lodge consists of a beautiful "knotty pine" living room, welcoming creek stone fireplace and a spacious dining area where nutritious, delicious meals are served. In addition to the residential buildings there is a hobby house for arts and crafts. The gazebo is a special place to meet friends, read, or just hang out gazing at the lake. At the corral and horse arena, instruction and fun fill a camper's busy days. Tennis courts, a basketball hoop, and a sports-shed packed with equipment provide plenty of chances to play with friends.
