Description

For a sports oriented camp, Menominee takes a unique approach to competition. You don't have to be a great athlete to be liked, accepted or part of the team. In other words, you're not perfect! Try you best, learn from mistakes and enjoy yourself.

This is not a subtle philosophy. It permeates every area and relationship in camp. In this type of environment, campers feel comfortable just being themselves - freeing them up to make lots of friends and to reach their potential in every part of their life at camp.

Camp Menominee provides a safe and healthy camp environment under the direction of a professional, responsive and caring staff. Programming includes all major land sports and water activities integrated with an appreciation of nature and its surroundings. Emphasis is on being the best you can be, sportsmanship, individual growth and responsibility, camaraderie, friendships, respect of others and the importance of tradition and great memories.

amp Menominee was founded in 1928 by Nate and Edna Wasserman who set a standard of tradition rich with love and caring which molded generations of young men.

One of these young men was Steve Kanefsky. In the early '80s the Wassermans' son Alan and his wife Elaine turned over the reins to Glenn and Dawn Klein, Glenn himself a long time camper and CM staffer. After a wonderful 14 years at the helm, the Kleins passed the baton on to Steve Kanefsky.

Steve spent 15 years at Menominee as a camper and then worked as a Counselor, Associate Director, and Director. His great love of camp and its lifestyle led to the realization of his lifelong dream to own and direct Menominee. Steve is a "hands-on" camp owner and director. He knows every camper, their families, and the unique characteristics of each boy.

Bari, Steve's wife, plays a large role at Menominee over the summer. Bari went to overnight camp in Wisconsin for several years and continues to love camp and all that camping has to offer the kids. Bari likes to be in Arts & Crafts Center, teaching the boys waterskiing at the waterfront, and help the boys adjust to camp.
