Camp Blodgett's roots date back almost 100 years. In the beginning of the 20th century a group of concerned women began raising money to provide support for orphans in the D.A. Blodgett Home for Children. They named their group the Babies' Welfare Guild. When they began providing camping experiences for those children living in the home it was with the thought that fresh air and fun activity would help the children develop physcially and emotionally. In 1921, recognizing the value of the camping program for the children, the John W. Blodgett family and Helen Blodgett Irwin donated a tract of land on the shores of Lake Michigan, and with this generous gift Camp Blodgett was created.
