Description

For many years Blue Lake has been well known for the high quality experiential education that it provides for students, summer campers, and special groups.  Over the past couple of years Blue Lake has been in a state of transition.  During this time the Society was able to take a close look at the types of programs and services that Blue Lake offered and then strategically evaluate where improvements could be made to make Blue Lake even better than before.  After making some exciting new changes we have evolved into a sound organization that is striving to become one of the leading Experiential Education Centers in Western Canada.

Blue Lake operates an office in Cranbrook, British Columbia and an outdoor centre located 26 KM west of Canal Flats, BC. The Society is governed by a diverse board of directors who share a love for Blue Lake. Year round staff include the General Manager, Camp Director and Office Administrator as well as a Property Manager that lives onsite at the Centre and looks after camp year round. The General Manager works with the board to make Blue Lake the best that it can be so that present and future generations can get as many memorable moments and wonderful experiences from their time spent with Blue Lake as possible. They have been working to ensure Blue Lake's sustainability, ensuring that people of all ages will enjoy Blue Lake for generations. Blue Lake is continually striving to grow and improve and the Society relies on donations, grants, in-kind support, memberships and community involvement. The outdoor centre is set in a beautiful and semi-remote area and is the location of Blue Lake, a lake which is the perfect size for learning to canoe, enjoying some fishing, swimming off the docks or walking the trails that surround the lake. The centre is also home to 10 sleeping cabins for a total sleeping capacity of 100, the log cabins are rustic and cozy with a wood-burning stove in each of them. There is a large dining hall that has many possibilities! The big kitchen and large open area allow for large groups to be fed comfortably and anyone who has had camp food will tell you that food has never tasted better! There is a large wash house with several toilet and shower stalls, it is wheelchair accessible and has the added comfort of heated floors.
