Description

Camp Augusta covers 80 acres in the Sierra Nevada foothills, just outside the town of Nevada City. Each year, more than 2,150 children, youth and family members enjoy Camp Augusta's rustic setting in the wooded lands of Lake Vera's western shores. Camp Augusta's three core programs are uniquely designed for summer youth campers, elementary school children and family groups. At Camp Augusta, kids see and wonder about a butterfly; they kick a stone and see how it really bounces; they talk with a friend without needing anything that whistles, buzzes, hums or electronically connects to something. Camp Augusta understands the value of simple, personal experiences for kids. While many camps have sessions of 250 - 500 kids plus staff, Camp Augusta is full with only 90 campers per session. This allows the director and staff to provide each camper with meaningful individual attention, as well as for campers to know one another. The camp environment, and more critically the family and home environment, are an important part of youth development. To support parents in raising healthy kids, Camp Augusta provides a safe, natural, community environment where campers learn and have fun. Counselors, who are chosen for their character and love of youth, model and enforce healthy living skills and positive values. They undergo the most extensive staff hiring and training process in the United States.  Additionally, counselors write personal letters to parents about their child's camp experience for continuity and reinforcement at home.

Our Mission

Camp Augusta's mission is to provide children a safe, fun-filled experience that will serve as a catalyst for personal growth and an appreciation of the outdoors. We provide a supportive environment geared toward each child's needs and interests.

Our nurturing atmosphere is achieved by limiting our total number of campers per session, increased supervision, and a dedicated and caring staff.

In a small, tight, true community set in natural splendor, campers develop self-confidence, independence, social skills (emotional intelligence), creativity, activity skills, environmental awareness and appreciation, friendships, and healthy living skills.  Kids also learn what most modern children have forgotten -- how to just play and be a kid without television, video games, the internet,  canned games, or social pressure.
