DescriptionWe provide a fresh air camping experience for children, teens and families who most need a time at camp. At Lake Scugog Camp, we provide a non-threatening, safe environment where campers can gain new knowledge, attitudes, skills and understandings which will be of value to them in their homes and communities. Our site has 325 acres of varied terrain, including a vast meadow, mixed forest, grass lawns, adventurous swamp and 1,100 feet of shoreline with a view of the most beautiful sunsets. Considerable planning and site improvements have taken place including a new washroom/shower block. Program facilities and buildings are continually being upgraded to accommodate campers and provide the best programming possible. ALake Scugog Camp has offered an Leaders in Training (LIT) program for youth ages 15 -16 since 1994. The success of this program has been tremendous and we are committed to its continuance. This two year program focuses on developing skills at different levels each summer, consisting of canoeing, swimming, out-tripping, orienteering, knots, low ropes, etc. as well as a comprehensive training program to develop leadership skills, it: problem solving, leadership styles, etc. Every summer a week long trip is planned with the LITs, alternating canoeing and hiking each year. The LIT program is run separately from the camp program, however there are many spontaneous moments when the LITs interact with campers. Near the end of the summer, LITs are integrated into the camping program, allowing them to exercise the leadership skills they have learned. This program produces many of our present valued staff as well as effective community members. Details
