MPC’s Statement of Mission... Motivated by the love of Jesus and led by the Spirit...Manitoba Pioneer Camp guides individuals into communities in the wilderness: children into adventure, young adults into servant leaders - all toward wholeness in relationship and an encounter with the wildness and warmth of God. What is our context? We live in a society where children and young adults learn to substitute speed for direction, entertainment for adventure, appearances for substance, self-comfort for serving others and individualism at the expense of community. Where are we heading? Our goal is the ongoing transformation of children and young adults into fully committed followers of Jesus Christ. These long-term disciples of Jesus value direction, adventure, substance, and find their place to live, serve, and lead within God’s Kingdom. These MPC operational beliefs inform our approach. Every individual is valuable in God’s sight. Because of sin, we are broken people living in a broken world. Reconciliation is possible because of Jesus Christ. God, our Creator, intends us to have wholeness in our relationships with ourselves, each other, the wilderness, and God. The good news transforms the whole person. God is the God of the whole camp. God takes initiative to speak to us and is always at work in all of us. God welcomes, embraces, and leads us in a life-long journey of discovery. Wilderness experiences create unique opportunities to experience God. Growth comes through adventure, challenge, and risk. God the Creator has entrusted us with the stewardship of Creation. These MPC operational values, like a compass tool, guide our journey: To offer campers a safe, challenging, and memorable experience. To see campers as whole persons, not to over-emphasize growth in one area. (Each area of life influencing the next.) To encourage learning, skill development and participation. To use adventure, imagination and risk for learning. To facilitate the transfer of learning from the wilderness context to life beyond camp. To act as interpreters of life experience, acknowledging God’s initiatives. To challenge campers with the reality of God, as expressed in the person of Jesus Christ, through the lives of Christian staff in honest, intentional and non-threatening ways. (To introduce campers to a life of following Jesus) To teach and model the practice of spiritual disciplines. (Scripture, prayer, worship, community life, and noticing God in Creation.) To pursue reconciliation in our relationship with others, the wilderness, and God. To foster the growth of healthy communities and long-term relationships. (With cabin groups, staff teams, churches and neighborhoods.) To develop leadership character by giving real responsibility. (Putting compassion into action.) To explore, appreciate, and to act as stewards of God’s Creation
