Description

At the Walking G, just like campers, counselors are a huge part of the Walking G family. Our counselors are required to complete our Counselor Training Program and have been selected for being responsible, optimistic, and love of kids and animals! It is often difficult to determine counselors from campers here as they all have so much fun together! Most of our counselors are former campers who enjoy returning to the ranch each year!

Sarah is 24 and has been with the Walking G for 10 years. She is currently attending The University of Arizona looking to earn a degree in animal sciences. During the year she works at a veterinary clinic and also works as a volunteer firefighter training to be an emt.

Kat is 20 and attends UC Davis. She is studying Wildlife Conservation Biology. Kat has been with the Walking G for nine years. She started as a camper and has worked her way up to a senior counselor.

Kathleen is 19 and goes to the University of San Francisco where she is

studying architecture. Kathleen has also been with us for nine years, starting

as a camper and working up to a senior counselor.

Will is 21 and attends UC Davis. He is currently studying anthropoloygy and spends his spare time working on his parents olive orchard in Livermore, California. This will be Will's first year at the Walking G and we are very excited to have him with us.

This is not the usual rating- but I just need to share with you all that I am a Walking G alumnus from 1968-1972...yes, a very long time ago in the camps VERY early days. Most of my cherished childhood summers were spent at the Walking G. I learned the intricacies of horsemanship that have lasted my entire life from my summers in the exquisite Gennessee Valley with Dave Newcombe and his daughters Heidi and Heather and many other people who remain in my memories to this day(I am 56!!). Do your child a favor and give them the gift of a remarkable summer at this remarkable place..
Beth Mendenhall (one of the early ones!!!)

I am now old and grey, but my 3 years of attending Walking G when I was a kid still fill me with such bliss. This was the best, most incredible experience.

Dave, your gentle hand with the horses and kids is life changing, and stays with a kid forever, thank you.

Back in my time as a camper, it was all girls which was truly wonderful, and meeting up in the winter to watch the horses race on the track was spectacular. I still love every minute of my time there.

The rope swing in the barn, fighting your way through the chickens in the tack room, swimming in the pond, night cattle drives... lord I want to go to camp again! Love you all,
Anne Cochran

I was ten years old when I first went to Walking G. I'm now 51 and still look back at that experience as the best childhood experience I ever had. I remember a girl named Sarah and I had the job of feeding the horses, Little Fox and Kaos. I rode Lovey who had just had a foal. Then I road Shovey. I remember the midnight ride and catching our horses out in the field. I remember dressing up like cave women for the annual parade. I remember Indian Falls and skinny dipping in a lake. The best part was feeling what it was
like to be on the back of a horse as it swims across the river. The most embarrassing part was mistaking the mop bucket for the milk strainer. Needless to say, we didn't have milk to drink that night or the next morning. I LOVE and MISS DAVE and this place so much!!! Kim (Mucho) Williams x455b9

This camp changed my life forever. It is the MOST amazing experience I have had. And I know plenty of people who will back me up on this. I love you Dave. Walking G is the best.
