Description

4-H Adventures is our off-site adventure program designed to introduce participants to outdoor adventure activiites available throughout our region. Programs include day-trips to local outdoor recreational sites as well as weeklong adventures throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Specialty Camps at the Skelton 4-H Center are offered on a regular basis throughout the year. Most Specialty Camps take place over weekends during the fall, winter, and spring months. Specialty Camps typically feature a theme and are designed for a specific age group OR a specific interest. Please visit the Camping Programs Calendar for the current schedule. More information about specific Specialty Camps is below, but please feel free to contact the Program Director for a brochure or with questions.

This weekend camp is open to youth ages 9-18 from across Virginia. Certified instructors from around the Commonwealth provide the instruction and training necessary to receive a Virginia Hunter's Education Certificate. Unlike Hunter's Education courses found in your community, this weekend camp features the unique opportunity for youth to experience "live-fire" in a safe, controlled environment. This includes hands-on training in archery, riflery, and shotgun. Our priority is to provide youth with the appropriate hands-on training along with the required classroom-based training before receiving their Hunter's Education Certificate.

The Challenge Course is nestled in the woods, a short walk from the main areas of campus. Perfect for groups looking to improve their ability to work as a team, improve communication, and simply learn more about each other, the Challenge Course features a Low Ropes Course and a Climbing Tower. They can be scheduled individually or together.

The James A. Meador Nature Center is a beautiful facility located on the waterfront and is an excellent setting for environmental education and related meetings. The Meador Center houses an aquatics classroom (seating for 20), a forestry classroom (seating for 20), and an atrium area complete with live animal exhibits (snakes, turtles, fish, frogs, etc.).
