Description
Welcome to Shad Valley Waterloo! We are delighted that you will be joining us for what we expect to be a fabulous experience. We've created this web site to give you easy access to everything you'll need to know before you arrive.
Our program draws on the richness of all six faculties of the university: Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Environment, Arts, and Applied Health Sciences. Your opportunities include lectures, workshops and guest speakers drawn from across campus and beyond. A major focus is our design project where you will work with your team on a real-world design challenge. We have activities addressing the social impact of technology. We have arranged a wide variety of recreational and social activities that culminate in our Open House, Closing Banquet and Variety Night.
As you will soon discover, community is a key component of a successful Shad Valley program. For the month of July you will be a part of a close-knit community composed of 47 other Shad students from across Canada, as well as the Shad staff. We look forward to working with you to create and nurture that community and share the spirit of Shad Valley together this summer.
The second last day of the program (Thursday, July 22nd) is Open Day. On this day, families and friends of Shads, corporate sponsors, and Shad alumni from past years are welcome to come to Conrad Grebel University College to experience an overview of the activities and projects which comprise Shad Valley. The Shads prepare exhibits and demonstrations of the lecture series, workshops, design project solutions, and recreation activities. This aspect of Open Day, held in the CGC's Great Hall, officially opens to visitors at 1:30 p.m. Families are also welcome to tour the Shad's residence wing in Conrad Grebel University College.
