Description

Camp Birchrock was founded in 1949, originally by the Girl Scouts, thanks to a monumental community organization effort of previous generations. A group of citizens and volunteers convinced the county to sell them the property that is now Camp Birchrock for a mere portion of its worth.

A year later they then convinced a U.S. Congressman to donate all of the buildings on the property that are still the backbone of our camp. In 1961 Camp Fire Girls purchased the property from the Girl Scouts when a policy change would have caused control of the camp to switch to a Wausau affiliate.

As of 1978, Camp Fire Girls was transitioned in to Camp Fire USA and has operated co-ed since. When Camp Fire purchased the property, it was done so with a promise. That promise was to serve the communities children and offer a summer camp experience for children of the community and also those that normally would not be able to attend.

To this day, countless volunteers, supporters, and staff work tirelessly to keep that over 40 year promise.
