(Boston) – The Boston University College of Fine Arts is proud to announce the 2009 season of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI), presented by the BU School of Music. Since 1966, BUTI has welcomed a select group of gifted high school musicians to the Tanglewood grounds for a summer training program for orchestra, voice, wind ensemble, piano, composition, and harp as well as workshops for individual instruments and chamber ensembles. Led by Artistic Director André de Quadros and Executive Director Phyllis Hoffman, BUTI is considered one of the most prestigious summer music programs for high school students in the country. With auditions held in seven cities throughout the country, 802 students auditioned for just 338 positions in the various BUTI programs. This year’s students represent 41 states and eight foreign countries, including Germany, Korea, Israel, Brazil, Venezuela, China, Hong Kong, and Canada.

The BUTI Young Artists Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Chorus will perform a series of concerts in Ozawa Hall on the Tanglewood Main Grounds. Concerts begin July 10 and run through August 8 at this prestigious hall, and for the first time two of the Institute’s resident ensembles – the Triton Brass Quintet and the Vento Chiaro Wind Quintet – will perform selections as part of two of these concerts.

BUTI ensembles will once again be featured in the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s day-long music celebration “Tanglewood on Parade,” students will perform in chamber recitals throughout the summer, and faculty members and visiting artists will perform a series of recitals at Trinity Church in Lenox, MA.
