Southern Cayuga Central School has been chosen as one of eleven sites in the United States to receive a chestnut tree sapling taken from the mother-tree that Anne Frank gazed at out of the attic window while in hiding in Amsterdam during World War II. The USDA has extended the quarantine period to three full years. The saplings have arrived stateside, however, we have decided to leave our sapling under the care of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation in a greenhouse there with two other sapplings. We are planning a visit sometime in 2010. The additional time for quarantine gives us plenty of time to plan for the actual planting and dedication celebration.
