Description

Camp Wintaka, "the happy camp on the mountain," nestles on 115 acres of tall pines and spreading oaks in the San Bernardino mountains, between Running Springs and Green Valley Lake. Campers are housed in cabins spreading up the hills from the dining hall and meadow are with its archery range, swimming pool, outdoor crafts area, and campfire rings.

Why do campers love Camp Wintaka, what brings them back year after year? Singing, learning the counselor camp names, dining hall traditions, the end of camp council fire "where the stars are shining and everyone is so close," "the red jackets that the Counselors in Training wear," "I have only gone to Camp Wintaka the last two years - I didn't know how much I was missing before," "I love the counselor serenade," "I love archery," "I love the end of camp dance show," "I love the overnight," "seeing and being with all my friends," "making new friends" - all of these experiences and more are part of the Wintaka tradition.

Camp Fire is proud of its continuous legacy of outdoor resident camping, begun in the 1930s at Camp Hemohme and then at Camp Wintaka beginning in 1958. Camp Wintaka is a great introduction for kids to overnight camping because of its warm, supportive environment.
