The Kansas State Rifle Association's Annual Junior Shooting Camp was held on 2-4 Oct 09 at Camp MaryDell just south of Abilene. All together there were 14 junior attendees, nine smallbore (.22 cal) shooters and five air rifle shooters. Camp attendees received instruction in marksmanship safety, basic rifle marksmanship, and instruction in 3-position rifle shooting. Saturday morning was devoted to instruction and practice then after lunch all attendees competed in an individual match. Sunday morning consisted of a two person team competition and afterwards the smallbore shooters played host to and coached the younger air rifle shooters who came down to familiarize themselves with smallbore rifle shooting. This was the first time that I can remember this camp has had such a large percentage of attendees with little or no competitive shooting experience. Defiantly, this was a great learning experience by all. ...
